The Story of Gebru
Gebru Goods is a São Paulo-based studio started by Ezra Kebrab. Gebru weaves together elements of music, flora, vehicles and comfort. Inspiration is drawn from Ezra’s afro alpine heritage in Ethiopia and Eritrea as well as an American upbringing across DC, NY, California, Mexico, and Brazil.
Gebru, Ezra’s great-grandfather, the namesake for the studio, was a vitruvian. Gebru’s progeny raced motorcycles and cars between the mountainous art deco landscapes of Asmara, Eritrea and the briny Red Sea coast of Massawa, Eritrea. The collective spoke 5 languages: Tigrinya, Amharic, Italian, English and Arabic.
Whether in traditional garb, double-breasted suits, or with sleeves rolled up covered in motor oil, Gebru marries together form and function, mountains and beaches, cities and deserts, utility and beauty.
